✿ Why Use Natural Toothpaste? ✿

I had a lot of problems with artificial sweeteners, fluoride, triclosan, glycerin, surfactants. I did not want any artificial colors/dyes or synthetic flavors. I found a few pretty good options but even those had either glycerin or some other ingredient I did not want. With all honesty, there have been a few interesting studies that busted a myth about glycerin being bad for teeth remineralization but I decided to opt out of using it in my recipe anyway. So here is my list of ingredients that I combine together (more or less) for my family, friends, and you, my dearest customers.

*Organic Bentonite Clay to gently whiten and remineralize your teeth, and to help eliminate heavy metal toxins from mercury fillings

*Calcium Orotate: adds needed calcium to your body and to your teeth for remineralization and gentle whitening

*Organic Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil: full of auric acid that attacks bacteria in your mouth. This bacteria is causing bad breath, tooth decay, and gum diseases. Coconut oil kills Streptococcus mutans that are a leading cause of tooth decay.

*Organic DGL Powder (Licorice Root): contains trans-chalcone that blocks an enzyme needed by Streptococcus mutans to survive in your oral cavity. Win!

*Organic Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil: antibacterial. Helps discourage bacteria growth in the mouth. Great for fighting bad breath and has natural pain-killing properties. WARNING: Keep EOs away from small animals. Some people reported to be sensitive to this oil (redness around the mouth are if toothpaste dripped during brushing, so please let me know if you have a known sensitivity to Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil and I will make a toothpaste without it.

*Organic Clove Leaf Essential Oil: antibacterial. Helps to fight an infection. Has natural pain-killing properties. WARNING: Keep EOs away from small animals

*Organic Xylitol: natural sweetener from the fibrous parts of plants. Helps to keep an oral neutral pH level. Starves those nasty Streptococcus mutans by tricking them to use Xylitol as fuel. It also creates a protective layer on the teeth that makes the bacteria in plaque unable to attach. WARNING: Keep xylitol away from dogs: under-nourished dogs are the most likely to experience a severe reaction to xylitol. When they ingest xylitol, it fools their bodies into thinking they have consumed sugar and their pancreas releases a toxic level of insulin into the animal's bloodstream, so the best – and quickest – antidote for them is table sugar.

*Trace Minerals: like your own saliva supplies the teeth with a healthy balance of minerals that strengthen and fortify your enamel

Activated Charcoal as a teeth cleaner is used in so many places including Mexico, Europe, and Africa. In many countries, traditional peoples still use the ashes or charcoal directly from the fire to clean their teeth.

pH adjusting baking soda is great for cleaning not only your teeth but pretty much your entire body. Many people believe that Baking Soda works by scrubbing, however, the high alkalinity of the baking soda contributes to fighting plaque build up. Tartar causing bacteria found in the mouth can't survive the high pH of Baking Soda so using it is a very effective way to manage decay.
